Yearbook Staffers from Woodland, Coral Academy and Cactus Canyon among the Finalists Named in NSPA’s Annual Contests
Yearbook staffers from Walsworth Yearbooks schools Cactus Canyon Junior High School in Apache Junction, Arizona, Coral Academy of Science in Sparks, Nevada and Woodland Junior High School in Fayetteville, Arkansas, appeared in multiple categories when the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) revealed the Finalists in its 2023 junior high/middle school contests this week.
Six entries from Woodland Junior High’s Round-Up yearbook were named Finalists in the NSPA 2023 individual contests. Entries from Amelia Bramlett, as well as Garrett Xu, Gracie Epps and Bramlett again were Finalists in Yearbook Design of the Year. Epps and Rebekah Hale were named Finalists in Feature Photo of the Year. Bramlett and Epps were named Finalists in Sports Photo of the Year.
Four entries from the Cactus Canyon Oro yearbook made the list of Finalists. Savannah Hancock from Cactus Canyon was named Finalist for Yearbook Design of the Year. Emma Solie and Riley Parris made the list of Finalists for Sports Photo of the Year and Kayden Spicer was named a Finalist for Feature Story of the Year.
The yearbook staff from the Coral Academy of Science in Sparks, Nevada was also rewarded with four entries that were named Finalists. Scott Sunderland was named in Yearbook Design of the Year; Lily Wood in Feature Photo of the Year; and Fatima Samir, twice in Feature Story of the Year.
Other Finalists named from Walsworth Yearbooks schools included an entry from Sophia Echeverria, Aubrey Lee and Samantha Wu from Pioneer Middle School in Tustin, California, in Yearbook Design of the Year. Lee was also named Finalist in Feature Photo of the Year.
The group of Faith Kruse, Kylie Redel, Grace Talbert and Scarlett Twillegar from Raymore-Pecuilar East Middle School in Raymore, Missouri, was named a Finalist in Yearbook Design of the Year.
All of the winners of NSPA’s 2023 individual contests will be announced next month at the JEA/NSPA Fall National High School Journalism Convention in Boston, at the event’s awards ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 3:30 p.m.
