Newton named winner of JEA’s Carl Towley Award
The Journalism Education Association (JEA) announced today that media adviser Mark Newton, MJE, has been named the winner of this year’s Carl Towley Award.
Each year, the Carl Towley Award is given to an organization member for exceptional service and is considered JEA’s highest honor. Newton is the adviser at Mountain Vista High School in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and also recently served two terms as JEA’s president from May 2010 to May 2017.
During his time serving on the JEA board, Newton chaired the Certification Commission, established the Curriculum Initiative, strengthened the outreach between JEA and professional organizations, led the transition between executive directors, and much more.
Newton will be honored, along with the other JEA award winners, on Nov. 18 at the JEA/NSPA Fall National High School Journalism Convention in Dallas.
