Pennsylvania Adviser Selected for International ‘Who’s Who?’
Richard McWherter, art teacher and yearbook adviser at Derry Area H.S. in Derry, Pa., has been included in the first edition of the international Who’s Who in the 21st Century for his exceptional contributions to photography and visual arts.
McWherter is a 1975 graduate of Derry Area H.S., and has been working as a visual artist and photographer for nearly 30 years. His photographs have appeared in several regional publications and exhibitions and have been reproduced in national magazines for fine art photography.
He has received many awards for his work, including the top award for black and white photography from Photographer’s Forum magazine and first place in the book “The Best of Photography,” published in 1990.
A strong proponent of visual arts education, McWherter said he enjoys exchanging views and resources with students.
“I think it began for me all those years ago when I was a student attending the Governor’s School for the Arts,” McWherter said. “I remember thinking then how would I ever find an environment that truly fosters creative thinking.
“I finally learned the best way to end my search would be to give students an opportunity to have the same experience. That’s what I do everyday in the classroom.”
The inaugural edition of Who’s Who in the 21st Century has been published in 2001 and distributed throughout the world.
