Two Walsworth advisers win JEA Rising Stars honors
Kansas City, Mo. (Jan. 11, 2011) – Two yearbook advisers from Walsworth schools have been chosen recipients of the Rising Star Award from the Journalism Education Association (JEA). Carlos Briano from El Dorado High School in El Paso, Texas, and Nicole Wilson from Carmel High School in Carmel, Ind., were both selected as Rising Star winners.
Each year, JEA recognizes advisers with up to five years of experience who show promise as up-and-coming advisers. Nominations for the Rising Star Award can come from scholastic press associations, yearbook companies, fellow teachers, students and parents. This year the JEA recognized 15 advisers, including:

- Mark Novom, Brentwood School, Los Angeles, Calif.
- Sara-Beth O’Connor, Grand Ledge (Mich.) High School
- Elizabeth A. Palmer, CJE, duPont Manual High School, Louisville, Ky.
- Erica C. Rickard, Newton (Kan.) High School

Each Rising Star winner will be presented with a plaque during the adviser awards luncheon at the upcoming Spring National High School Journalism Convention, April 14-17 in Anaheim, Calif.
